Default Is wifi free on orange with a BB

Gf recently bought a BB bold 9700. She doesnt have a data plan for internet however we have wireless internet set up at home

Reading the instructions it is confusing whether we will be charged for using wifi, as it says the following

Quote:
a note about browsing

the Unique service boosts te coverage you get at home. If you browse the internet, make calls or send a text mesage, you'll be charges as per your standard plan
however elsewhere when talking about wifi it says

Quote:
You can browse the internet over UMA , You'll be charged at your normal rate. When you browse the internet on your phone, your service plan data charges will apply, as you are accessing the internet through the orange network
This all seems a little contradicting, surely they cant charge if we are using our home internet connection. Also if we are out and see a free wifi hotpsot sign then surely the only thing being used on the phone is the wifi capability, not the orange network

Thanks in advance

Surfing using the WIFI in your house is free. Unique uses your WIFI to route your phone calls instead of using the 3g/2g network. All it means is that when you are at home, the phone will connect to your WIFI and all your calls go through your broadband. You dont pay extra, they are charged in the same way as they are if you were out and about.

Any surfing you do using your own wifi is of course free because you are using your own broadband.

There is no provision for any wifi hotspots unless you have asked for it, you will be charged by the hotspot
provider and not Orange in that case.

Hi, It's the UMA service that enables you to use your phone as normal (as if you were out and about as tetstb mentioned).

Just to note that if you were to go over your allocated minutes/text/data etc, you would be charged at your standard talk plan rate after that).

Hope this helps.
