Default T-mobile great number juggling act

Hi Everyone

I have just spoken to T-mobile regarding this little problem and was just checking noone knew a better way of doing it than the one we came up with over the phone. Heres the deal

PROBLEM:
G/f is currently on a T-mobile mix-it type contract thing. She wants out of that becuase its too expensive - she wants to go back to t-mobile pay as you go becuase she likes that (she won't listen to me and move to orange!!!) She wants to port her number to pay as you go (less hassle)

However T-not-so-mobile say that she cannot convert her mix it to a pay as you go package and that she cannot just go and buy a t-mobile pay as you go sim and move her number from the mix it to that sim becuase their systems don't support internal number transfers.

PROPOSED SOLUTION
Go out and buy and different companies PAYG phone and port the mix it number to it - thus cancelling the mix it contract and moveing you number.

Stage 2 is to go buy a T-mobile sim to go in your phone (make sure its compatible obviously) and then request to port the number off the newly purchased non t-mobile sim onto the new t-mobile sim.

2 weeks later (number porting time) Everyone is happy, probably only cost a few quid to do and most importantly g/f gets PAYG and stays on T-mobile (not counting the week she is with the other company)

MY QUESTION

Is this the best way of doing it - can we come up with something that is quicker / easier / cheaper?

Thanks

If she's going to move to pay as you go, go to easyMobile, same network, apparently you can end up on T-Mobile CS (!) if you're trying to get hold of easyMobile, and it's a truckload cheaper!
